Man working with Lawn AeratorAerating, the process of perforating soil to let in water and nutrients, can be critical to your lawn’s health. After all, when soil becomes compacted, or if old grass clippings and debris form a “thatch” at the base of your turf, your grass is blocked from the nutrients it needs to be healthy.

Let your lawn breathe

Precision Lawn Care offers professional, lawn core aeration using a plug aerator, which drills small holes into your lawn, three inches deep.  The holes can’t be seen when you look down at your lawn, but to your grass, it is a lifeline.

When aeration is needed

How do you know if you need your lawn aerated?  Is your lawn:

  • Getting heavy use as a neighborhood playground with children and pets? This can contribute to lawn compaction.
  • Part of a new home construction? Often the soil has been compacted from the construction equipment and needs aeration to establish healthy turf.
  • Dried out or spongy? This might mean you have a thatch problem.  Dig your shovel about four inches of your lawn, straight down. If the thatch layer is greater than one-half inch, it is time to aerate.
  • A sod lawn? This type of lawn often is layered with sod, sand and highly compacted or rocky soil, which can lead to poor root development. If you haven’t yet had an aeration, or haven’t in several years, it’s time to schedule one.

Aeration can be an affordable addition to your lawn service. Contact us today for all your lawn maintenance needs.
